Someone i know tried to take their own life a couple of days ago. They were unsuccessful, but now they are being detained for observation/assessment under the mental health act.
I nearly started this post with "a friend of mine", but that would be a lie. It's someone I see and speak with regularly, but have little in common with. I know virtually nothing of their private life, but I did know they were unhappy.
So should I feel guilty that I didn't see the signs? Should I try to help now? Surely there must be people closer to them than a casual acquaintance?
Why should I care about their problems when I have problems of my own?
On a different note, I have been told that suicide takes guts and bravery... I say Bollocks! What's harder, tying a knot, downing some pills, or living knowing every day that tomorrow is going to be just as shit as yesterday?
